Squalor and biohazard cleanup

Biohazard PPE, sharps protocol, sanitisation, environmental disposal. Property handed back safe to enter.

Squalor and biohazard work is run separately from standard clearance. The crew is in full PPE, contaminated material is bagged and tracked, sharps are containerised, and the property is sanitised before handover. Suitable for severe neglect, vermin, animal waste and bodily-fluid contamination.

Scope assessment

Squalor work is quoted only after a physical site assessment. Photos are not enough — air, surface and absorbent material all change the disposal stream and PPE requirement. The assessment is no cost and runs to a written scope before any work starts.

Crew and PPE

  • Two to six crew depending on volume and risk category
  • Disposable Tyvek suits, P2 respirators, nitrile and cut-resistant gloves
  • Bagged-out workflow — contaminated waste never re-enters cleared areas
  • Sharps containers carried on every job

Disposal and paperwork

Standard waste, contaminated waste and sharps each move through a separate stream with documentation retained. Sanitisation products are recorded. Paperwork is supplied to the property owner, executor or insurer on completion.

Squalor cleanup — FAQ

Common questions

What’s the difference between hoarding and squalor?
Hoarding is volume of contents. Squalor is contamination. Many jobs involve both — we scope it as a combined job with the appropriate PPE and disposal stream.
Is the property safe to enter immediately afterwards?
Yes. Sanitisation, ventilation and PPE protocols are designed so that the property is safe to enter on handover. Sensitive occupants should still wait for full airing.
Will this damage floors, walls or fittings?
Severe contamination sometimes requires removing carpet, underlay or sections of plasterboard. Any removal is scoped and quoted before work starts.
Do you handle deceased animal removal?
Yes. Standard scope on squalor jobs. Carcass disposal is via a licensed facility.
